Mazda recalling over 20,000 newer vehicles in Canada for fuel pumps

Several cars and SUVs may find their engines choking, starved for gas, if affected by issue

On affected vehicles, the impeller in the fuel pump could deform, causing the part to fail. If this happens, the vehicle may not start, or may start but run rough or idle. It’s also possible for it to stall at low speeds, or occasionally at high speeds. The problem is aggravated by high external temperatures.

The automaker will reach out to owners of affected vehicles and let them know to visit their dealer so the pump can be replaced with one made from higher-quality materials.

The recall is identified by Transport Canada as 2021-696; and by the automaker as campaign 5321K .
